Shield ZEC

Shielding moves ZEC from your Solana wallet into the pool. After that, your ZEC is a private note that only you can open.

Shield#

  1. Open Shield in the app and type an amount (or Max).
  2. Your browser builds a proof. This takes a few seconds; a line at the bottom shows the progress.
  3. Your wallet signs the deposit. The ZEC goes to the pool vault and a new note appears in your balance.

What others can see#

A deposit is signed by your own wallet, so the chain shows your address and the amount you shielded. That is the one public step. What you do with the note afterwards (lock, send, exit) is not tied to that deposit.

Tip

Round or common amounts blend in better than an odd amount, and waiting a while before you exit makes timing links weak. See Staying private.

Fees#

The deposit fee rate is a pool parameter (0 in the current parameter files). You also pay the Solana network fee for your own transaction. See Fees and costs.

Limits#

A single deposit cannot exceed the pool's deposit limit: 1000 ZEC on the test network, 100 ZEC proposed for the first weeks with real ZEC. The pool refuses a larger one.

Hide your balance#

The eye button next to your shielded balance blurs the numbers on screen, for when someone is looking over your shoulder. It changes nothing on chain.
